Mark Scott – Luminor EP

Here at Itchy Pig we are pleased to welcome a new release from up and coming tech/house producer Mark Scott. Hailing from the similarly industrial climes ofGlasgow, Mark is usually better known for his collaborative house releases under the Those Beats moniker with a guy called Brendon.

The e.p kicks off with an up tempo 4/4 techno cut, We Are, tribal in rhythm with melancholy house stabs. It’s a brooding and introspective track deep enough to keep heads nodding in both front and back rooms. It’s reminiscent ofGlasgowstechno viaDetroitstalwarts Slam, of Soma recordings and it doesn’t disappoint. It builds rhythmically to a whirring vocal drone that stirs with emotion.

The other two cuts, Little Bit of Something and Sonification are a more down tempo affair taking in influences of Dub and Techno with spaced out chords and warm analogue bass.

A lush melody ‘Aphexy’ in style on Little Bit of Something tugs at the heart strings with plenty of reverb carrying the track forward, taking in snippets of hazy 90’s techno/electronica through to a more progressive sound ideal for late nights and early mornings. Overall this is a confidently realised production that will leave you wanting to know a lot more about this promising young producer, a worthy contributor to Glasgow’s rich electronic heritage…watch this space!
